Central Vietnam
has many vestiges of the country’s cultural and dynastic past,
but tends today to be more famous for its long white sandy
beaches, and coastal cities such as Nha Trang are considered the
playgrounds of the people. Other highlights are the ancient
capital Hue and the lovely town of Hoi An.

Day 2: Hue – Da Nang - Hoi An
(B,L)
Today we head out for the countryside. Being the ancient
capital, Hue is surrounded with tombs of emperors of the past,
and a visit to some of these tombs will be on the itinerary for
today. We will start our trip by visiting the ThienMu pagoda.
Within the Imperial Enclosure of the Imperial Citadel is the
Forbidden Purple City, which was almost totally destroyed during
the Tet Offensive of the Vietnam War, and the museum of Royal
Relics. We move on to the Colosseum where elephants were pitted
against tigers to the death for royal entertainment. From here
we will continue onto Vong Canh hill, a VC stronghold during the
war, and then head out to the eccentric Tu Duc tomb. We have
lunch in Hue before our drive to Hoian.
(OVERNIGHT IN HOI AN)
Day 3: Hoi An
(B,L)
Hoi An is a charming little township. Between the 17th and 19th
centuries Hoi An was a thriving international trading port. More
than any other place in Vietnam, Hoi An retains the feeling of
centuries past and is a favourite with all travellers. You can
spend your time walking around the historic town soaking up the
atmosphere, exploring the fascinating local market or hire a
bicycle and head off on a scenic ride to Cua Dai beach, about 4
km away. Besides, it is interesting to explore the many Chinese
assembly halls and fascinating ancestral homes, some of which
have been occupied by the same family for fifteen generations.
If you wish, have a whole new wardrobe tailored or improve your
culinary skills with a Vietnamese cooking lesson! The riverside
market is always a hive of activity, especially in the early
morning when the day's catch arrives. One thing's for sure -
there is no shortage of things to do in this town!
