Detail program
Day 1-3 ~ Dong Ha ~ DMZ ~ Dong Hoi ~ Phong Nha
Departing from Hanoi we board the overnight train to the former
DMZ. Arriving in Dong Ha, we travel through the former border of
north and south Vietnam ~ some of the most hotly contested
territory in the history of warfare, stopping at the infamous
McNamara Electronic Wall, Hien Luong bridge and Vinh Moc
tunnels. The next day we visit an amazing Phong Nha Cave the
UNESCO World Heritage Site. The vast area, extending to the
border of the Laos, contains spectacular formations including 65
km of caves and underground rivers. The Phong Nha caves are
reached through a pleasant river journey starting in the village
of Son Trach. The visits include one cave that is reached
through an underwater river, and one cave that is reached after
climbing many steps into one of the karstic hills.
Day 4-7 ~ Hue ~ Hoi An ~ My Son ~ Quy
Nhon
Departing Dong Hoi we travel south to Hue. In Hue we see the
impressive tomb of former Emperor Tu Duc and the ruins of the
former royal residence, the Hue Citadel. After a dragon boat
along the serene Perfume River to see Thien Mu Pagoda we travel
to Danang crossing Hai Van Pass. We visit the city's fascinating
Cham Museum, the Marble Mountain and China Beach and proceed to
the quaint old merchant town of Hoi An. Next morning we
experience walking cobblestone lanes, visiting markets, historic
houses and temples. This afternoon we have a chance to try our
hand at Vietnamese cooking at restaurant Red Bridge. Boat cruise
in the afternoon and we see handicraft villages of Hoi An. On
the day 7 we travel south to My Son to visit the ruins of Cham
Kingdom's capital from 8th century. After lunch we proceed
further south to Quy Nhon.
Day 8-9 ~ Pleiku ~ Kon Tum
Departing Quy Nhon we travel west to Central Highlands. The
highland towns of Pleiku and Kon Tum are gateways to a rare
glimpse into the traditional customs of many ancient tribal
peoples. We see villages Bahnar and Jarai minority. We are
invited to the Rong, a communal house of Bahnar, and enjoy the
Gong performance. We visit also Playmorong village and learn
that the Jarai minority have an unusual burial custom. Each
deceased gets a portrait carved from wood that make the
graveyard an interesting place to see.
Day 10-12 ~ Buon Me Thuot
We travel to Yok Don where we meet M'nong people. The M'nong
hunt wild elephant using domesticated elephants, dozen of which
live in Yok Don. We are invited to drink wine from communal jug
and take four hours elephant ride through some hardwood
rainforest. Next day in Buon Me Thuot, we visit Tua village
where we meet Ede minority people in their traditional
longhouse, see Dray Sap Falls in the middle of hardwood
rainforest and travel to Lak Lake about 60 km from Buon Me
Thuot. The lake view are fantastic and the climb up the adjacent
hill is well worthwhile and we cross the lake with sampan to see
the authentic M'nong village. On the day 12 your tour ends with
your flight to Saigon or transfer to Nha Trang.
