Detail program
Day 1-3 ~ Hanoi ~ Halong Bay ~ Ninh Binh
Upon arrive into Hanoi, meet your guide and transfer to your
hotel for check in and tour briefing. If time permits we will
take a short orientation tour of Hanoi. In the evening enjoy
welcome cocktails at your hotel and dinner at one of Hanoi's
superb Vietnamese restaurant. Next day we journey east to
Vietnam's greatest natural wonder, Halong Bay. We board our
boat, spend a full day and night cruising the bay's 3000
magnificent limestone islets. You can challenge yourself with
kayaking to a stunning lagoon of Halong Bay. The next after noon
we travel south along Route 10 to Ninh Binh through the lush
countryside of the Red River delta.
Day 4-6 ~ Mai Chau ~ Son La ~ Dien Bien
We venture by sampan to Tam Coc and see the "Halong on Land",
after lunch at local restaurant we travel west to Mai Chau,
where we meet the White Thai people and stay in a traditional
Thai longhouse. The journey from Mai Chau to Son La takes us
through Moc Chau and Yen Chau - famous for orchards of mango,
bananas, longans as well as tea plantations. In Son La we will
visit the French prison, now a museum, and take some free time
for further exploration. Departing Son La, crossing the
unparalleled Pha Din Pass we venture further northwest to Dien
Bien Phu, site of the decisive battle that ended French
occupation of Vietnam in 1954.
Day 7-10 ~ Lai Chau ~ Sapa
Departing Dien Bien Phu we venture east to Sapa stopping en
route at Mien and Red Dzao minority villages, and at Lai Chau, a
remote town surrounded by mountains, for overnight. We arrive
Sapa - a mountainous area of stunning natural beauty and diverse
ethnic minorities. We walk the hill and visit small villages
along the way. On the day 10 we board the night train to return
to Hanoi.
Day 11-12 ~ Hanoi
We arrive Hanoi in the morning. Early check in hotel and after
breakfast we explore Hanoi's charming French colonial
boulevards, tour the ancient Temple of Literature, the amazing
life of Ho Chi Minh visiting his mausoleum, the house on stilts
and the museum. In the afternoon we explore Hanoi by cyclo,
driving through the lively Old Quarter, a series of 36 ancient
streets where peddlers trade their wares as they have done for
centuries. Tour Hanoi's old house in Ma May street and then
walking tour through Hang Be market and enjoy famed water puppet
theatre. Farewell dinner in the finest restaurant of Hanoi and
on the day 12 your journey ends with your airport transfer.
